Doune Together
Doune Together came about as the result of the work of Artlink Central and Scene Stirling to create a network of artists worked with the local communities to test and develop meaningful creative activities over the several months,
The pilot event that took place as part of the ‘Doune Together’ community celebration. Each key artist, elements of their workshops, historical sites, local businesses and native wild plants in the area were connected together in the form of a treasure trail, devised and written by Amanda and designed by Silvia Sinabaldi, which culminated in a workshop in the village which shared local stories and a traditional herbal recipe from the area.
Thanks to Amanda’s work with curator Silvia Sinabaldi to create a connection with local businesses and Amanda’s emphasis within her practice on embedding creativity into education, this evolved into a collaboration with Doune Primary School for a joint project and exhibition trail, with a community day of free activities for everyone.
Participants were able to follow the Doune Primary School exhibition trail, take part in a photography and storytelling walk, and try some painting, metal working and creative mapmaking, with activities taking place between the Rural Hall and Moray Park.
The trail contained elements created by the 140 pupils within the school across all year groups with artists Amanda Edmiston, Peter Yates, Frankie Burr, and Roberta Pederzoli, with the overarching theme and story ‘A Child of Their Time’.
Pupils from all classes experimented creatively with storytelling, drawing, painting, metal working, collaging, mapmaking and visual composition. The result was an exciting body of work that was displayed across 13 venues in Doune, forming a village-wide exhibition trail. After the exhibition, the artwork was installed for permanent display within the school.
Participating venues included: Information and Heritage Centre, Woodside Pharmacy, Willow Houseplants, MOYA Soul &Skin, The Collective Hair & Beauty, Woodlane of Doune, Simply Sarah's, The Natural Choice, Harvey Maps, The Desirable Curio, Co-op, Roots Cycles, Doune Ponds
